Homeowner Woes

I love my house.  No, really.  I LOVE my house.

This is our first house, and we've been in it for almost two years now.  Considering that we've been married for 14 years, you'll understand that we waited until we could afford a house that we loved.  It's a great house.

Is that enough?  Can I complain now?  ;)

Things break, colonel.

There are bubbles underneath the hardwood floor.  Bubbles that make a loud popping sound when we step on them.  It concerns me, as a materials engineer, because of the possibility of fatigue damage.  I need to get someone in here to fix this, but I'm an anal freak about the hardwoods, and I need to make sure I get someone whom I can trust.  Did I mention the freak component of this issue?  Yeah.

The sprinkler system has already been cut through once by the lawn service (but really, how can you prove that?), and has been repaired.  Now there are a few heads that have broken, and I think they all may be due for replacement.  Unfortunately, when we got the system fixed the first time, we were told that our system was not up to code, and would have to be upgraded if we wanted more work done.  Sure, go ahead.  Upgrade the heck out of it.

The dishwasher has recently had a new water pump installed, due to seized bearings in the old one.  We were very lucky not to have a major leak from this failure.  Did I mention that there are hardwoods in the kitchen?  I am now paranoid about leaving the dishwasher running while we are out in case the bearings seize up again.

The air conditioner is unbalanced.  In our case the master bedroom, which is in the back of the house, is marvelously cool, while the formal dining room, which is in the front of the house, is an oven.  This was not an issue when we were not entertaining, but now we have a game in that room every other Friday, and it's annoying.  Also, the book room (spare bedroom #2) is occasionally used for poker, and those guys sweat, believe me.

The carpet in the master bedroom now has "waves" in it.  I assume it needs to be stretched, but that will entail a lot of furniture moving.  Onto the hardwoods.  Feh.

Much work to be done.
