Medical Update Continued
Nov. 24th, 2004 10:46 amSo, the results of my shoulder MRI are in. I do not have any problem with my rotator cuff, however there is some small amount of osteoarthritis, which he believes we can take care of without surgery (say hello to another cortisone shot). If non-invasive measures do not work, we may eventually try to go in and smooth down the bone arthroscopically. That's not so bad.
The knee thing is what's really bugging me. I don't want knee replacement surgery (ever, but certainly not at this age). I think the first thing to do is to lose a bunch of weight, and deal with reducing any inflammation in the joint. After that, I'm wondering if meniscus replacement surgery is a viable option. The doctor didn't go into this at all during my first visit, but I have another appointment scheduled for Monday, so I'll bring it up then. I really hate the idea of having a bone on bone situation, but menicus replacement has only been done for about 10 years, so there's not a lot of long term data available.
What am I thankful for this year?
That it's only one knee and not both. ;)
