Either way, I feel accomplished!!
I've started painting again.
I just finished an old style Ankheg. At least I think it's an Ankheg; I'm sure
drangelo will let me know if I'm wrong. I had started it a long time ago, right before my painting muse fled.
Recently I've been wanting to paint, but I've been afraid to start anything for fear of screwing it up. Luckily, I have a few unfinished pieces, once of which was this really crappy Ankheg fig. I spent a few nights working on it, and finally based it last night. It's not great, but it's not too bad. and now I'm ready to tackle the other unfinished pieces, which happen to be really nice figs.
Looks like I'm back!
EDIT: This is an Ankheg. This is an Umber Hulk, which is what I actually painted.
Thanks,
drangelo!.

More on Figs
Dec. 13th, 2004 04:05 pmMeriel has been completed! It took a long time, but I'm pretty happy with her. This was my first attempt at a cream colored cloth and I think the shading worked quite well. If you recall, Meriel is Kaya's sister.
I also finished a fig for Kevin's nameless Monk in the same game. Monk-boy was burned over half his body as a child, which is why you see the strange pink mottling on his right side.
I realize I haven't updated for a while, but so much has been going on that I haven't had a chance to write. At least I've had a chance to paint. :)
Feel free to comment on the figs.

More Fig Painting
Sep. 7th, 2004 10:29 amI did some more work on Meriel over the long weekend. Her latest photos can be seen at the "In Progress" Gallery.
This is my first real attempt at cream colored clothing, and the shading and highlighting has been a bear. I found a pretty good reference for the color scheme on a Michael Parks print that we have in our guestroom called Gargoyles. If you take a close look at the girl's nightgown (and I actually stood on our futon and looked from about 2 inches away), you can see that the shading has a bit of olive in it. That is the shading that I am attempting with Meriel, only not quite as dark. I hope it turns out when I am finished.

As I've mentioned, Angelo has started running the Cauldron Dungeon series using D&D3.5 rules. So far the game, which has only been through 2 play sessions due to summer travel, has been a lot of fun. The characters appear to be learning to fit together, and the adventure is challenging, although not beyond our 1st level abilities.
So, about the figs... *grin*
K and I are playing sisters, Kaya and Meriel, a paladin and priest duo. I found two Reaper figs by Werner Klocke that fit them very well, and I have finally made some progress on them (their faces, at least) this weekend. I used the "Jen Haley method" of painting faces, and it turned out particularly well. The method you see on her website is an older one; I used the version she has in the CMON photo book.
If I get a chance, I'll post a little "work in progress" set of images, but here are the figs:
The Paladin will be for Kaya, and the Justicar will be for Meriel, my priest.
Reaper has an ongoing painting contest, where you can see some painted versions. I really like the Painted Paladin, which has some nice NMM gold, but I'm not all that impressed with the Painted Justicar.
Oh, and I also found a fig for which I have been waiting for close to 10 years. This Scribe will be painted for Gail as her character, Leoneth, from high school. (Yes, I bought 2, just in case.) ;)

The Gallery has been updated
Jul. 20th, 2004 05:59 pmGo take a look at Name Withheld and tell me what he should be named!
Thanks to
drelmo for the pictures.

More figs completed
Jul. 17th, 2004 09:01 pmI have finished another 5 figs: 2 skulks, 2 dark creepers, and an elven rougue. Of course, I have not yet gotten them to
drelmo for photos, but I promise any minute now to get them onto the gallery. Before I do so, however, I need a name for the rogue.
At first glance, he is very dark looking, with a black, hooded cloak that fades to purple at the highlights. He is armed with a dark purple sword that fades to white at the edges (cooler than it sounds, I promise). Underneath the cloak, he is in very bright gold armor, with light blonde hair. It is a pretty cool effect. If I don't come up with a cool name,
drelmo will name him for me, which is a serious threat.
Can anyone come up with a good name for this guy?
