On the way home I was listening to npr and I heard
this story about a scandal in the Hasidic community in Brooklyn.
Okay, so I was not raised as a Hasidic Jew, and I haven't been a practicing Jew for years, but I still felt this in the gut. Somehow, I see these as my people, or at least awfully close to my people, and I want justice. What I do
not want, is to hear the people who have been tasked to investigate saying the situation must have been "blown out of proportion."
I shouldn't have to say this, but
no organization should have unfettered authority over it's constituents. This is one reason why organized religion leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. Truly, there must be a special hell for people who abuse power in such a heinous manner.
