Figures 4-20a and 4-20b show a series of relaxation data obtained by successive load relaxation and reloading relaxation runs in whiich the specimen was strained by about 7% over a period of five days [Lee, 1993].  The sequence of experiments is: 1st load relaxation; reloading relaxation (#1); reloading relaxation (#2); and 2nd load relaxation.  For the sake of clarity, the first relaxation data and two sets of reloading data are shown in 4-20a, while the second load relaxation run are included in 4-20b.  An interesting feature of the data is that, apart from the initial transients, the first and second sets of reloading-relaxation curves fall at higher levels of stress than the initial load relaxation curve.
