I am off to Las Vegas today for a technical conference.  Most of my time will be spent at Specification committee meetings (including all day Sat and Sun!), as well as a few additional consortia face to face meetings.  Hopefully, there will be free wireless at the convention center so that I can keep connected during the day.

Being in Vegas does not attract me in the least.  I don't gamble, I rarely drink, and I no longer eat to excess.  I'll be trying to do some networking with my colleagues from other companies (as well as folks from other sites in my own company), but that's about the extent of the "fun" I expect to have.

So many things have been pissing me off this week.  I hope a change of scenery will help lighten my mood.  But for now...still grumpy.

If you are at all a Trek (Next Generation era) fan, you MUST MUST MUST do the Star Trek Experience motion simulator ride. It's so good it made Wil Wheaton all misty-eyed.

I've heard this too. I still need to experience it myself. There are also supposedly good shows to be seen there at any given time -- usually there's at least one good comedian in town, if you're into that kind of thing.

If nothing else, there's pappasitos to look forward on the flip side.

I say forget the vices and just enjoy the spectacle. Given the time and resources, my wife and I would make the journey to Vegas just to see the Cirque du Soleil shows.

I sort of turned that corner on the way to my first committee meeting today. It's an adventure now. :)

Here's what I did in Vegas when attending a conference:

1) Walk to admire the Wax Museum. Hey, why not, it was open late.

2) Walk to admire the Bellagio fountains. At least I think it was the Bellagio - I am not that interested in gambling, so the names made little impression.

3) Walk to admire the Chihuily (misspelled) glass exhibit at one of the other casinos, I forget which.

4) Debate the merits of going to a Rita Rudner show.

I hope you have a lovely time!

My conference is in the Mandalay Bay Conference Center, which is apparently beautiful. I'll be wandering around here for a while as well. :)
