Finally

I've started painting again.

I just finished an old style Ankheg.  At least I think it's an Ankheg; I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] drangelo will let me know if I'm wrong.  I had started it a long time ago, right before my painting muse fled.

Recently I've been wanting to paint, but I've been afraid to start anything for fear of screwing it up.  Luckily, I have a few unfinished pieces, once of which was this really crappy Ankheg fig.  I spent a few nights working on it, and finally based it last night.  It's not great, but it's not too bad.  and now I'm ready to tackle the other unfinished pieces, which happen to be really nice figs.

Looks like I'm back!

EDIT:  This is an Ankheg.  This is an Umber Hulk, which is what I actually painted.

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] drangelo!.

"but I've been afraid to start anything for fear of screwing it up"

That's an interesting comment. I have a bad tendency to put off all sorts of projects, for fear I won't be able to do them once I get started. But what would be the cost to you if you started painting something and decided you didn't like it?

It's hard to say. The easy answer is I could always dunk it in solvent and do it over again. But it's not that simple.

It took me a long time to improve my painting to the point where I'm proud of the pieces I do. I think it would bother me to see that I've lost some of that talent due to disuse.

I'm sure this says a lot about my personality, but I don't what to know what it means. :)

You've just described perfectly why I never play the piano any more.

You're wrong. ;{)}

It is, in fact, an Umber Hulk.

It was the pincers that confused her... oh wait a minute, no it wasn't, it was the CONFUSION GAZE ATTACK!

apropos of not very much.

I always want to pronounce your lj name as "drang-elo" (and Greg's as "Drel-mo"). Must be the Confusion Gaze Attack.

Obviously he is Drangelo the dreaded half-dragon tangelo (in total, one-half dragon, one-quarter tangerine, and one-quarter pomelo.) His breath weapon is the grapefruit juice that squirts in your eye

That's how I pronounce them.

Post some frickin' pictures, girl. I'm 360 miles of swamp away, and I wanna see.

It's not good enough to photograph. Wait until I finish the Rakshasa and the "big magic guy with the basket on his back and the monkey with the coffee mug skull." (You'll have to ask Ang what that one is called.)

In D&D, the big guy is an ogre mage, although he'd be more likely to be called an oni in mythology, and the coffee-mug thing is a kappa.

Wow, you got all that from her description? I can see guessing the kappa, but how on earth did you get from "big magic guy" to "ogre mage"? And hmm, ogre mages are basically oni, aren't they... although a little googling shows that there was something called a wang-liang in some supplement that was an "oriental ogre mage". And wow, this perfectly innocuous entry scored 8 "spelling errors" when I told lj to "Check spelling during preview"!
